Mutation Mechanics (2026)

Mutations are the entire economy of Grow a Garden. Here's the full list, exactly how the stacking math compounds, and which combos are worth chasing.

Stack by multiplying Rare rolls = jackpots

What a Mutation Is

A mutation is a modifier applied to a crop that multiplies its sell value. A plain carrot is worth its base; a Wet carrot is worth base × 2; a Wet + Gold carrot is worth base × 40. Mutations are applied at sell time and combine by multiplying together — never by adding.

The complete formula the game uses is value = base × weight² × the product of every mutation. The calculator does all of it for you.

Approximate multipliers. Rare mutations (Gold, Rainbow, Shocked) swing value the most.

How the Stacking Math Works

Take the crop's base, square its weight, then multiply by every mutation it has. Order does not matter — Wet × Gold is the same as Gold × Wet.

15 (base) × 2² (weight) × 2 (Wet) × 20 (Gold) = 2,400 sheckles

That is a single Carrot (base 15) weighing 2 kg, with Wet and Gold. Without mutations it would be 15 × 4 = 60. Two mutations turned 60 into 2,400 — a 40× jump. The calculator handles any combination automatically.

Best Mutation Combos to Chase

Shocked + Rainbow

×100 × ×50 = ×5,000. The legendary jackpot. Any crop with both is worth a fortune, even a carrot.

Gold + Wet

×20 × ×2 = ×40. Easy to reach — one rare roll plus a rain. Turns a mid crop into a late-game payout.

Rainbow + Weather

×50 × ×2 (Wet/Chilled) = ×100. A rainbow crop caught in rain doubles again.

Stack the cheap ones

Wet × Chilled × Pollinated × Honey = ×60 from common rolls alone — no rare drop needed.

Rarity rolls (Gold, Rainbow) are the bottleneck — they're rare. Weather and event mutations are frequent, so even without a rare drop you can stack a respectable multiplier. See which crops to farm to pair the right seed with the right strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do mutations add or multiply?
They multiply. A crop with Wet (×2) and Gold (×20) is worth base × 40, not base + 22. That compounding is exactly why rare mutations are so valuable.
Can one crop have many mutations?
Yes. A crop can carry several at once, and they all multiply together. More mutations = a longer product = a much bigger number.
Which single mutation is strongest?
Among commonly reported ones, Shocked (×100) is by far the biggest single multiplier — above the ×2–×5 weather and event rolls, and well above Gold (×20) and Rainbow (×50).
Do mutation multipliers change?
Yes. Developers adjust multipliers and add new mutations in updates. The list reflects commonly reported values at the time of writing; verify in-game for trading or high-value crops.
How do I know what my crop has?
Check the crop in-game — it shows its active mutations. Then toggle exactly those in the calculator for an accurate sell price. Don't guess; a wrong toggle overstates value and hurts trades.
