Best Crops to Farm (2026)

"Most profitable crop" has two right answers in Grow a Garden. Here's a profit-first look at what to plant — high-base earners, cheap mutation-bait, and where each fits your garden.

GAG Calculator Values · July 2026 Cheap seed, big roll

Two Ways a Crop Makes Money

High base, slow

Crops like Mushroom, Candy Blossom, Starfruit start high even with zero mutations. A clean one already sells well, and any mutation just multiplies a big number.

Low base, mutation bait

A cheap crop that lands a rare roll (Shocked ×100 or Rainbow ×50) can out-earn an expensive one. The multiplier — not the seed price — decides the payout.

Both are valid. Farmers chasing steady income lean on high-base crops; farmers hunting jackpots plant cheap seeds and pray for a rare weather or rarity roll. The calculator settles "which is worth more" for any specific fruit in seconds.

Top Crops by Base Value

Sorted high to low by base sell value (at base weight), from the GAG Calculator Values database (July 2026). Values shift with every patch and other trackers differ — treat them as a snapshot, not gospel. The full mutation list is what really moves the number.

Base sell value (sheckles) at each crop's base weight, from GAG Calculator Values (July 2026). Other trackers differ and values shift with patches — verify in-game before trading.

Starter vs Late-Game

1
Early game — learn the loop. Carrot, Strawberry, Blueberry grow fast and cheap. You won't get rich, but you learn planting, harvesting, and mutation timing without burning a big seed budget.
2
Mid game — the bait phase. Tomato, Corn, Pepper, Raspberry are cheap enough to mass-plant and wait for weather/event rolls. A Pepper (base 7,220) with Shocked (×100) already beats a clean Starfruit.
3
Late game — steady giants. Mushroom, Candy Blossom, Starfruit give you a reliable floor. Even un-mutated, they out-sell almost everything — and mutations multiply a large base.

Why "Cheap" Can Beat "Expensive"

The payout is base × (weight ÷ baseWeight)² × one variant × environmental stack (env stack uses diminishing returns: 1 + Σ(m−1)). A rare roll dwarfs the seed cost:

Carrot + rare roll

Carrot base 22, with Rainbow ×50 (variant) and Shocked ×100 (environmental): 22 × 50 × (1 + 99) = 110,000 sheckles. A carrot.

Starfruit, clean

Starfruit base 13,898, no mutations → 13,898 sheckles. The cheap carrot still won, by ~8×.

The catch: rare rolls are rare. High-base crops pay out every time; mutation bait only pays when luck lands. Most players run both — steady giants for income, cheap seeds for lottery tickets. See how mutations stack for the math.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the single most profitable crop?
It depends on your luck. For guaranteed income, high-base crops (Starfruit, Candy Blossom) win every harvest. For a jackpot, a cheap crop that lands Shocked or Rainbow out-earns them — but only if the roll happens.
Should I only farm rare crops?
Rare crops are usually slow and expensive to grow, so "only rare" starves your steady income. A mix — steady giants plus cheap mutation-bait — is the more reliable strategy.
Do the base values on this page change?
Yes. They are snapshot figures from the GAG Calculator Values database (July 2026) that shift with game updates. Use the ranking as a guide, but confirm the actual base in your own game before a big sale or trade.
Does weight affect which crop to farm?
Weight is squared as (weight ÷ base weight) in the value formula, so a heavier fruit compounds fast (double the ratio = 4× value). Some crops naturally grow larger; a heavy specimen of any crop is worth chasing. The calculator lets you type the exact kg.
Do I need the calculator if I already know the crops?
Yes, for accuracy. Once a crop has 2–3 mutations the math gets hard to do in your head, and a wrong estimate hurts trades. Toggle what your crop actually has and read the computed number.
